Become a Volunteer

Smiles, hugs and love are the wonderful gifts our volunteers give to our kids. They provide comfort, affection and consistency to our children who have not had positive role models in their lives. Whatever your talents, skills or interests may be, there is a place for you in our Volunteer Program.

Opportunities to be involved at Canyon Acres include:

• Mentoring a Child - Make a true impact on a child through a meaningful mentor relationship. Provide consistent friendship, support and encouragement and help a child grow in his or her confidence and self esteem.
• Therapeutic Horse Riding Program – If you have some experience and have a good comfort level with horses and if you like working with children, then this program is for you. This program needs volunteers who can commit one day a week, on a consistent basis.
• Cookie Moms – If you would like to spend time baking with our children, consider joining this dedicated group as they bring warmth to the kids’ homes.
• Fundraising Volunteers – Join a dynamic group of committed people who work with the Development Staff to plan, organize and staff special events that build awareness and support for Canyon Acres. Annual events include: Blue Ribbon Gala, Par Fore Kids Golf Classic.
• Arts & Crafts Club – Volunteers encourage the expression of emotions through creativity. Volunteers need not be artists. We are actively seeking arts & crafts volunteers.
• Story Time - If you enjoy reading stories to children, then this program is for you. We are actively seeking story time volunteers.
• Creative Celebrations –. This is another great opportunity for a group of people. Create special memories for our kids year-round. Sponsor and coordinate a two-hour event for our children. Groups have put on celebrations for Valentine’s Day, Easter, Cinco de Mayo, 4th of July, Summer, Back To School, Halloween, Christmas, and more.
• Done-in-a-Day Projects – Just as your home needs cleaning, repair, and updating periodically, so do the children’s homes. Call us to schedule a “work party” for your company or service group. Tasks include gardening, repairs, cleaning and painting.
• Professional Services – By donating various professional services, you are directly helping the children. Your tax-deductible donation offsets operational costs. A wide range of services is needed including plumbing, electrical, construction, orthodontic, computer, personal grooming, etc.
• Office Volunteers – Work with other volunteers and staff by supporting the day-to-day activities at Canyon Acres business offices. From stuffing envelopes and filing to photocopying and data entry, volunteers take on a variety of tasks to help keep the office running smoothly.

Volunteer Background Checks
For the safety of our children, background checks are completed for selected volunteer positions. To work directly with children, volunteers must be 21 years old.
