Day Treatment
Therapeutic Horse Riding Program
Located at the Residential Treatment Center, this showcase Day Treatment program exposes children to four beautiful, well-groomed horses and the accompanying facilities while they are in placement at the Residential Treatment Center, Intermediate Treatment Homes or in one of the foster homes. For our children, many of whom have severe abuse histories and a fear of emotionally connecting with other people, the Therapeutic Horse Riding Program provides an opportunity to begin to form emotional attachments in a less threatening environment – with an animal. Certified staff and qualified volunteers provide an experience unlike any other in this Canyon Acres Therapeutic Horse Riding Program.

Expressive Arts
Expressive arts therapies include creative forms of expression, such as art, music and movement/dance therapy. Children participate in expressive arts at the Residential Treatment Center in groups and on an individual basis.
Recreation Therapy
Therapeutic recreation is a large component of the Day Treatment Program at our Residential Treatment Center. Canyon Acres uses a variety of recreation services – play, arts and crafts, drama, sports, community reintegration – to help our children make the most of their lives – mentally, socially and physically.
Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS)
Canyon Acres’ TBS program provides intensive time-limited therapeutic behavioral coaching to assist children who are at risk of hospitalization or group home placement or who are preparing to move to a less restrictive environment or a family home. The TBS program provides the child with a one-on-one coach to assist them with specific behavioral issues and help the child and the child’s caregivers to develop the resources to address the issues.
