Foster FAQs
Who are the foster children?
More than half a million American children live in foster homes today – many right here in our own community. These children are often described as having special needs because of their ages, existence of two or more siblings, ethnicity, or medical, physical or emotional needs. Some have lived in several homes and have not known the stability and comfort of one committed, long-term family.
Who qualifies as a foster parent?
Anyone 21 years of age or older – singles or couples, of all races, ethnicities and religions are welcome. Homeowners or renters simply must have enough room for the child or children. Adequate income is necessary to support your household without relying on foster care subsidies.
How long does it take for a child to join a family?
As little as three months, though the length of time varies widely. Preliminaries include completion of a home study, education, necessary paperwork, background checks, and locating just the right child or children who will benefit most from your family’s special strengths.
How many children can I foster at one time?
You can take just one into your home and heart. Or you can take several siblings. As many as you have room and love for.
